Actress Mouni Roy began he acting career with Balaji Telefilms' television serial Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in 2007 and made her name with roles in the series Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev and Naagin. This year, she stars as Akshay Kumar’s wife, Monobina Das, in Reema Kagti’s Gold (2018), her first big role in a feature film.
But that’s not all, Roy is also part of the upcoming films in 2019 – Brahmastra, Romeo Akbar Walter and Made In China. The actress, in an interview with Mumbai Mirror, a tabloid, shared new information about her role in Ayan Mukerji’s multistarrer, Brahmastra.
She said, “While I can’t reveal much about my character, I can say that I am the only villain of the Ranbir [Kapoor] film.”
Roy, then, has a significant role to play in the first film of the trilogy. Brahmastra also stars Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna and Dimple Kapadia. So, by process of elimination, the rest of the cast are likely the protagonists who will feature in the rest of the films as well.
Brahmastra is currently filming its second schedule in Sofia, Bulgaria, where most of the cast has assembled. Producer Karan Johar is also visiting the cast and crew on the sets. Bachchan had written that the city streets of New York were recreated in Bulgaria for the film. He and Kapoor were photographed taking a selfie in the ‘fake’ New York.
Roy, who bagged the role after a series of look tests, also revealed that she has shot a scene with Bachchan in Bulgaria.
“It was surreal. I was like this little puppy who was just excited to see him and didn’t know what to do and after giving a shot with him I could have happily died. Who would have imagined that a girl from Cooch Behar [a town in West Bengal] would be sharing the screen with Amitabh Bachchan,” she told Mumbai Mirror.
The fantasy film will require many special shots and Roy will need to return to film other portions of the film.
Brahmastra is due to be released on 15 August 2019, exactly one year after Roy’s film Gold (2018) hits the screens.
