In a first, actor Sushant Singh Rajput is set to play 12 historical figures in a 12-part series. Each episode will cover one famous person from Chanakya, Rabindranath Tagore to former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. The series will be launched next year.

The project is produced by Rajput and his business partner Varun Mathur under their recently launched production company Innsaei Ventures.

“We are excited to bring to the audience a new series presenting the most magnificent stories of India. These 12 geniuses have made a paramount contribution in forming the India that we live in today,” Mathur told Press Trust of India, a news agency.

"Sushant has always been extremely passionate about learning new things and following the philosophies of these people, hence, he decided to bring them to life on screen,” he added.

This will not be the first time Rajput features in a biopic. He played former Indian cricket captain Mahednra Singh Dhoni in Neeraj Pandey's MS Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016).

The series might be released on Mathur's VEQTA, an over-the-top streaming platform. However, VEQTA is claimed to be India's first over-the-top digital broadcast network dedicated to sports. The platform had bagged the India broadcasting rights for the boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor last year.

Post the success of MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Rajput has been flooded with a host of projects like Kedarnath, Kizie Aur Manny and Sonchiriya. With his plate full, the actor had to let go films like Romeo Akbar Walter and Chanda Mama Door Ke.
