Actor Rajkummar Rao says that content is the star and it is content that makes one a star.

Rajkummar has played the lead in a number of films like Ragini MMS (2011), Kai Po Che! (2013), Shahid (2013), CityLights (2014), Aligarh (2016), Trapped (2016), Behen Hogi Teri (2016), Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017), Newton (2016), Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana (2017) and Omerta (2017). However, he will play a character role in debutant Atul Manjrekar’s Fanney Khan, which also features Anil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

When asked about this during a recent media interview, he said, “For me, honestly, content is the star. And content makes you a star. It is the thing that eventually works; nothing else. For me to choose a Fanney Khan is because I really like the content. I believed in the story. I feel excited about it. That’s the reason I said yes. And the other films where I am playing the lead part — like Stree and others — it is eventually the story that matters. I didn’t say yes to Stree because I was getting to play the lead in it.”

The actor also revealed that he regularly rejects scripts where he is asked to play the lead. “There are so many films that were offered to me where I was supposed to play the lead, but the story didn’t excite me as an actor. So, there’s no point doing a film which you don’t feel comfortable about just because it’s offering you a lead. It’s better to do an important powerful character in a film like Fanney Khan where at least you are happy doing it,” added Rajkummar.
