Marathi filmmaker Ravi Jadhav has been having a harrowing time trying to get his film Nude screened.
First, Nude was pulled out of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa last year as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) did not certify it in time.
Now, when the film has been certified for public exhibition by the CBFC and is set to be released on 27 April comes news that it has been embroiled in a plagiarism row.
Author Manisha Kulshreshtha and her publishers have filed a case in a Delhi court against Jadhav and the makers of Nude, alleging that the film is an unauthorized adaptation of her story titled Kalindi, which has been in the public domain since 2008.
In a setback for Jadhav, the court has stayed his film's release. Judge MP Singh of the Tis Hazari courts passed the ex-parte injunction, meaning a restraining order passed without hearing the other side, on 5 April, according to a report on the website of Outlook magazine.
The matter will now be heard on 19 April.
Director Jadhav remained unavailable for comment, but his wife Meghna said they have not yet received any order withholding release of the film.
