Salman Khan's lawyer complains of receiving death threats, to get increased security

Just before appearing to place the bail plea for Salman Khan in the Jodhpur magistrate's court, the actor's lawyer, Mahesh Bora revealed that he had received death threats. Bora said, "Yesterday I got threatening SMSes and internet calls warning me not to appear for Salman Khan in the bail hearing today." 

Bora quoted the SMS as saying, "Salman Khan ka case ko chhod dijiye, warna goli maarenge (Drop the case or we will shoot you)." 

The court of the chief judicial magistrate (Jodhpur rural) sentenced the actor to five years in prison under section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act and under Section 51 read with section 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code on 5 April. The decision on Khan’s bail plea in the case has been reserved until Saturday, 7 April.

The actor, alongwith co-stars, Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre and Neelam Kothari were accused of hunting and killing two blackbucks during a their shoot for Hum Saath-Saath Hain (1998) in Jodhpur.

In view of the threat, the lawyer is set to receive additional protection during his appearance in court tomorrow. 

Khan was also at the receiving end of a death threat by gangster, Lawrence Bishnoi, yesterday. The gangster, when brought to a court on production charges, had threatened to kill the actor. Jail Superintendent Vikram SIngh was quoted by the Business Standard as saying, "We are thinking of keeping him with some other prisoners from tomorrow so that he is not alone considering the threat to him."

The actor is expected to spend another night in custody, and will have to wait on the decision of his bail plea till Saturday, 10.30am.
