102 Not Out song: Sonu Nigam returns to form with cold, sweet 'Kulfi' for the summer

The quirky, sweet relationship of veteran actors Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor's father-son duo in director Umesh Shukla's 102 Not Out has taken a sensitive turn with the latest song from the film, 'Kulfi'. The aptly titled song has a sweet, cool flavour that is a far cry from the rushed, high tempo mixing of songs these days.
The song begins with a solemn, sad sight of Kapoor's Babulal reminiscing about his childhood after, what seems to be, a fight with is 102-year-old father, Dattatraya Vakharia, played by Bachchan. As he goes on a trip down memory lane, through the sights of his childhood, the veteran realises that his father, despite his craziness, loves him and adores him. The conflict is brought to fore beautifully through the imagery of the plane in the park, and the metaphor of a kulfi.
The song is sung by Sonu Nigam, and composed by Salim-Sulaiman. Nigam's voice manages to create a nostalgic feel to the entire composition. Saumya Joshi's lyrics are not entirely in rhyme, but have some wonderful touches of imagery that add to the feel of this song. However, it does disappoint in terms of the score. There is little of Salim-Sulaiman's usual rousing renditions that make their work so memorable. While the song does have a pleasant melody, it does not manage to capture and hold attention. Nevertheless, it is a nice change of pace and has some memorable verses.
102 Not Out will be released on 4 May.
