The official poster of Srijit Mukherji’s upcoming film Uma was launched today.
Scheduled to be released on 8 June, the film features Jisshu Sengupta, his daughter Sara Sengupta, Anjan Dutta, Rudranil Ghosh, Srabanti Chattopadhyay, Anirban Bhattacharya and Babul Supriyo in important roles.
Uma is inspired by the true story of Evan Leversage, a Canadian boy, known as ‘The boy who moved Christmas’. Evan was suffering from a terminal disease when his hometown of St George staged a Christmas celebration two months before the Christmas eve for him, fearing that he would not survive for long.
In Mukherji’s film, Sara plays the central character of Uma, who is also suffering from a terminal disease while her father struggles to make all her dreams come true as she has few days to live. With Uma’s tale, runs a parallel story of a director (Anjan Dutta) whose past continues to haunts him.
In the poster, Uma’s face is at the centre of a frame which is traditionally used in Durga Puja around the idol of the goddess. The other characters also make an appearance on the poster.
As Uma is also another name of the goddess, the poster suggests a metaphorical relation to the story of Durga.
Uma has already been selected for screening at three international film festivals — the New York Indian Film Festival, the London Indian Film Festival and the Indian Film Festival of Alberta.
