The South Indian Artistes Association better known as the Nadigar Sangam has announced that it will organise a major protest on 8 April to press two public demands.

In a statement, the Nadigar Sangam said that the protest would be to support Tamil Nadu's demand for the constitution of the Cauvery Water Management Board and for the closure of the Sterlite Copper Plant in Thoothukudi.

The protest will be held from 8am to 1pm at the Valluvar Kottam in Chennai.

Sources in the film industry say that the entire Tamil film industry will be there to show their support to both causes and to express solidarity with the people of the state.

A source says, "You can expect people from all the 24 crafts associated with the film industry to congregate at the protest. Many top stars including Kamal Haasan have already confirmed their participation."

It may be recalled that the entire Tamil film industry is already on a strike, seeking a solution to a number of problems plaguing it including an ongoing dispute between producers and Digital Service Providers over the Virtual Print Fee.
