John Abraham's Parmanu to be released on 4 May

After a financial dispute between its two production houses, JA Entertainment and KriArj Entertainment, Parmanu: The Story Of Pokhran is finally due to be released on 4 May.

Directed by Abhishek Sharma, the film is an ode to the Indian army and the country's nuclear scientists and is based on true events while employing ficticious characters. It stars John Abraham, Diana Penty and Boman Irani.

On 1 April, JA Entertainment had announced the cancellation of the contract between it and KriArj Entertainment, forcing the latter to put out a statement saying the termination of the contract was invalid and illegal.

The film was supposed to be released in early December 2017 but was pushed back to February 2018 to avoid a clash with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat (2018), which was eventually released on 25 January 2018. Parmanu, meanwhile, missed its February window as well.

Today, a spokesperson of JA Entertainment released a statement about the future of the film, stating, “Much in line with India's journey to becoming a nuclear power, our film's journey to its release has also had its own ups and downs! However, it is perhaps a befitting tribute to the true heroes of our nuclear programme — our army and our scientists — that Parmanu is being released in the same month as we celebrate 20 years of Operation Shakti, India's nuclear test explosions in Pokhran in May 1998. We are extremely proud of the film and what it stands for and can't wait to take it to our audience on 4 May 2018."
