Avengers: Infinity War has registered a great opening at the Indian box office on Friday (27 April). The Hollywood superhero saga set a new record by bagging a whopping Rs30 - Rs30.50 crore on its first day, as per figures shared by boxofficeindia.com.
No Hollywood film has so far managed to cross Rs15 crore on its first day in India. Therefore, the numbers of the Anthony and Joe Russo directorial is commendable.
According to boxofficeindia.com, the film has broken the record set by the Hindi version of Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017) in terms of occupancy (not the earnings), which ranged from 70%-75%. While Avengers: Infinity War released in only 2,000 screens in India, Baahubali 2 was released in 3,950 screens and earned Rs40.73 crore on its first day.
The Hollywood film has become the highest opener at the Indian box office so far this year, deafeating Baaghi 2 that earned Rs25 crore on day one.
Avengers: Infinity War also features at number 8 in the list of top 10 openings days of all time in India. It has defeated the likes of Ek Tha Tiger (2012) and Chennai Express (2013).
The film has managed to pull out this feat on a working day. Needless to say, going by the hype and excitement, the earnings of the film are expected to rise higher during the weekend, Saturday (28 April) and Sunday (29 April).
Sudhir Mishra’s Daas Dev was also released yesterday and has done very poorly.
