Filmmaker Kaushik Ganguly finally confirmed the news of Bijoya, the sequel of his National Award-winning film Bisorjan (2017), at Hotel Hindustan in Kolkata, on 25 April. The star cast of Bisorjan — Joya Ahsan, Abir Chatterjee, along with actors Prosenjit Chatterjee and Parambrata Chattopadhyay — were present at the occasion.

“After the immersion (bisorjon) of the idol there is the tradition of Bijoya (a celebration of the victory of Goddess Durga). My film Bijoya’s concept is similar, much like the second part of a novel. In Bisorjan, many questions were left unanswered, Bijoya will offer those answers,” said Ganguly to Ebela, a supplement of Anandabazar Patrika.

The same pair of Padma-Nasir, played by Ahsan and Abir, on whom the story of Bisorjan (2017) was based, will be repeated in the sequel, alongwith the supporting characters. Moreover, Ganguly declared that the compositions of the late Kalikaprasad Bhattacharya, who did the music of the prequel, will be used in the film, with a few additional inputs from music composer Indradip Dasgupta.

“The memory of Bisorjan is still fresh in the audiences' mind. We have seen how they have loved the film. Therefore, this time, we have a greater responsibility to live up to their expectations,” said the male protagonist of the film.

“I am extremely excited that the sequel is being made. Bisorjan is quite close to my heart. On the other hand, I am a little nervous too. I hope I can do justice to the love that has been bestowed upon the character of Padma. Like the previous time, I am again going to leave everything upon Kaushik da,” commented Ahsan.

“It is quite possible that the audience might not appreciate Bijoya as they did Bisorjan. But we will take that as a compliment. This time, I have planned to bring Padma to Kolkata from Bangladesh,” added the director.

The shooting of the film will begin in May this year.
