The Tamil film industry will be officially launch the South Indian Film Women’s Association on 1 May, Labour Day. This will be the first organisation exclusively created for the needs of women from the 100-year-old industry.
According to sources, a group of highly talented and well known female technicians are coming together to form the association that will focus and work for the welfare of female workers in the industry.
The event will be graced by eminent personalities from all the 24 departments of the Tamil film fraternity.
While Vaishali Subramanian will be named the president, VP Eshwari will take on the role of the secretary and Angel Samraj will be the vice president. The association will also have the posts of a joint secretary and a treasure, held by Meena Mirutharasi and Geetha M respectively.
Sources say that the team has already been formed and has been functioning silently for the welfare of women for the last six months.
"The team will be officially launched from 1 May. Several celebrities from various departments have already expressed support for the association including Directors' Union president Vikraman, Cinematographers' president PC Sreeram and FEFSI president RK Selvamani," says a source in the know.
