Raazi song 'Dilbaro': Tearful ode from a patriotic father to his daughter as she crosses border

Drawing some inspiration from a Kashmiri folk song, lyricist-poet Gulzar pens a heartfelt number and singer Harshdeep Kaur does full justice to it.

After releasing the patriotic 'Ae Watan' song, the makers of Raazi have now presented an emotional number 'Dilbaro'.

Raazi's 'Ae Watan' song is Gulzar's tribute to Urdu poet Mohammad Iqbal

It is always a tearful moment when parents bid their daughter goodbye after her wedding. In the case of Raazi, this goodbye is perhaps more painful for Hidayat (Rajit Kapoor) as this might be the last time he sees his daughter alive.

As we all knows by now, Raazi narrates the tale of Sehmat (Alia Bhatt), an Indian spy married to a Pakistani soldier for intelligence.  'Dilbaro' is an endearing song that underlines the moment when the father sends off his daughter to not only start a new life, but also set out on a dangerous mission for her country.

Penned by lyricist-poet Gulzar, 'Dibarao' begins with a verse from the popular Kashmiri folk song ‘Khan Maej Koor’. Talented singer Vibha Saraf, who was much revered for the electrifying party track 'Behka' from High Jack (2019), shows the traditional side of her talent with the rendition of the Kashmiri folk song.

Singer Harshdeep Kaur gives an emotionally gripping performance with the Hindi lyrics. The sombre mood of the track is aptly reflected in Kaur's tone.

Gulzar takes over next, penning some simple yet insightful lyrics. The words reflect how every bride wants to turn back one more time while leaving her parents’ home. It’s remarkable that even at 84, the legendary poet can still come with poems that strike an instant chord with the people. The same words can also be interpreted as an encouragement for Sehmat to not look back as she leaves for her mission.

Music composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy compliment the lyrics with a delightful, soft score. There is no need for too many instruments for the visuals sing a tune of their own. In 2000, the trio had given us the 'Bhumbro' song from Mission Kashmir, that was also set in Kashmir.

'Dilbaro' is an endearing, tearful ode from a patriotic father and his daughter who is about to cross the border. Raazi is set to be released on 11 May.
