Ranangan trailer: Average attempt to introduce mysterious protagonist

Unlike the teaser, the trailer of Rakesh Sarang's film manages to hint at the storyline. But even then, it is average at best.

The teaser of director Rakesh Sarang’s Ranangan provided little information on the story of the film. It just had too many sequences jammed together in the 36 seconds video.

However, the trailer of the film manages to hint at the storyline. But even then, it is average at best.

Going by the trailer, it seems the film is about a rich and influential man (Sachin Pilgaonkar) who forms a marriage alliance between his son Varad (Siddharth Chandekar) and Sanika (Pranali Ghogare), daughter of a family friend. But a mysterious man (Swwapnil Joshi), who often poses with a flute, warns the girl against the arrangement.

He tries to convince Sanika that her marriage with Varad is a conspiracy. The man apparently is privy to some of the dark secrets related to Pilgaonkar’s character, who, clearly, is not happy with his arrival.

The trailer appears melodramatic at times. Too many effects too dilute interest. The political angle apparent in the teaser is missing in the trailer.

While the makers have not made it clear who exactly Joshi’s character is. His characterisation, particularly the long hair and the flute, reminds one of Krishna from the Mahabharata. It would be interesting if Joshi plays the modern-day Krishna in the film. For those not in the know, Joshi's claim to fame was his role as Krishna in Ramanand Sagar’s television series titled Krishna.

Ranangan will hit the screens on 11 May.
