Actor-turned-director Arindam Sil celebrated his 30 years in the Bengali film industry yesterday (23 April) at Hyatt Regency Kolkata, amidst close acquaintances from the film fraternity.

The director began his journey by acting in television series Halka Hasi Chokher Jol by Amal Sarkar. Off late, Sil has earned accolades in and outside the country, not only for his performances, but also for the films he directed — the Byomkesh and Shabar series.

“For the past five years, I have been directing films and I feel I have just started my career — there's a long way to go. I still remember my first shot was with Indrani Dutta for the series Halka Hashi Choker Jol directed by Amal Sarkar. For Indrani, too, it was her debut [sic]. And the shot was okayed at once.

“I was essaying the role of a driver and I learned driving in seven days to be part of that project. So, my journey began that day as a driver and the car is still running,” said a happy Sil.

“I love cinema and this industry. Never did I think that I would have such an incredible journey. I am immensely overwhelmed by the love I have always received from my fellows here and the audience, who have always been a great support. Also, I am grateful to this industry for bearing with for me for the last 30 years and for looking forward to the films that I make," Sil added.

Among many stars from the industry filmmaker Srijit Mukherji and actor Abir Chatterjee were present for the celebration. Both of them shared that they were merely kids when Sil commenced his career. They congratulated him for his dedication through all odds and conveyed their best wishes for his upcoming projects.
