Sonali Kulkarni returns to Hindi films with Naseeruddin Shah in Hope Aur Hum

Marathi actress Sonali Kulkarni is set to mark a return to Hindi cinema with Sudip Bandyopadhyay's quirky drama, Hope Aur Hum. The film, which also stars veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah, revolves around the story of a family whose head is obsessed with a unique copy machine. While she has been active in Marathi films, Kulkarni has stayed away from Hindi cinema since her fleeting appearance in Singham (2011). 

The film will also mark the first time Kulkarni is collaborating with Shah. Speaking about the film, she said, "I am really and thankful that Sudip asked me to play this part in Hope Aur Hum. A film that is really very close to my heart now. I was so thrilled to read the story because as an actor I have stopped checking out how much screen time I have or how much range of emotions I have. For me, the most important thing for me was to get to work with Naseer Sir. I think would have probably played any role for that matter in this film. One was Naseer Sir and second was Ravi K Chandran, these two important reasons really drove me a long way. I have worked with Ravi on Dil Chahta Hai (2001), and I was getting to work with him once again. He is one of the ace technicians, a cinematographer, we have in India today and you know ultimately it is about with whom you get to work." 

The film explores the life of an endearing family through a cinematic journey. Kulkarni suggested that she chose the film as it was a 'wonderful project which had solid writing.'

She said, "I have been really selfish to be a part of Hope Aur Hum. Once you see the film you’ll know that after Poster Boys which came in September 2017, I felt like going for Hope And Hum in Hindi [cinema]. It feels really proud to be a part of such wonderful project which has solid writing, good music, fantastic cinematography, a good set of actors and a very fine director who is very passionate about telling a story, so somewhere I could feel that this project had innocence, had hope. I desperately wanted to be a part of this [sic]." 

Hope Aur Hum is presented by Thumbnail Pictures in association with PVR Pictures and will be released across cinemas on 11 May.
