Director Dnyaneshwar Yadavrao Umak’s Vantas is yet another Marathi film based in a village. Ater the roaring success of Nagraj Manjule’s Sairat (2016), a number of films on the same theme have been emerging. A couple of recent ones include Yuntum (2018) and Baban (2018).

Thankfully, Vantas has a different feel. From the trailer, it seems like the film is more in the entertainment space.

The film features new faces like Ajay Varpe, Snehal Salunkhe, Akshay Mahulkar and Ramesh Vedpathak. Vantas has two meanings – it's slang for taking leave from somewhere and to describe somebody’s good looks. In the case of this film, it’s the latter.

Vantas tells the story of a guy (Varpe) who has been crazy for a girl (Salunkhe) ever since he was a kid. His feelings for her don't change even as they grow up. He sets out to propose to her only to realize that she loves someone else.

The trailer mostly features fun moments, both natural and forced. Nana Patekar’s reference from Welcome (2007) is the best moment in the trailer. The trailer would have been impactful if not for the ultra generous use of background score.

Vantas will be released on 4 May.
