There are actors who seriously enjoy being in films. Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor seem to be among those. The veterans are playing father and son in Umesh Shukla's comedy drama, 102 Not Out, but seem to be hell bent on giving the younger generation a run for its money. The latest song, 'Badumbaaa', features the two actors jiving, joking and going all out to have fun.
The song begins with the energetic 102-year-old played by Bachchan trying to get his grumpy 70-year-old son, Kapoor, to take life a little lightly. While his centenarian father gets grooving with girls five decades younger than him, the son finally gives in an decides to rib his father back.
The two veterans share an excellent chemistry in the song, and it works in their favour. Bachchan's choreography might not be much, but then he is playing a 102-year-old. The actors, though, are excellent as the oldies trying to get in line with the younger generation. Bachchan, in particular delivers a high energy performance, while Kapoor spices it up towards the end with his own unique moves.
Not enough with playing an old man, Bachchan has also composed the song making it another first in his long career. It is peppy, upbeat and fairly impresive for a debutante composer. He goes further by delivering a rap portion in the middle of the song, and makes it quite interesting. Kapoor's first attempt at singing is not bad, although the verses are fairly read along. The actor does competently without missing a beat.
Amitabh Bhattacharya's delightfully quirky lyrics with made-up words make for some tongue twisters in the song. The strange concoction of 'muffler moje' (muffler and socks) as a rebuttal makes for some fun.
102 Not Out is directed by Umesh Shukla, and will be released on 4 May.
