Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi, whose Beyond The Clouds (2018) is set to be released this week, has spoken about actress Kangana Ranaut being approached, but not being part of the film.

Along with actress Deepika Padukone, Ranaut was also considered for the role of the female lead in Beyond The Clouds. There were reports last year about Ranaut refusing the role as she felt her character in the film was ‘submissive.’ The role eventually went to Malavika Mohanan.

This didn’t go down well with Majidi. But the Iranian filmmaker has now come to know that she hadn’t said such a thing and the statement given was by her office.

While speaking to the news agency PTI, he said, “With Kangana, we could not work together. I heard something from her office and that made me upset. She had said 'I did not accept the role', which was not true. Then we followed it up and it was not Kangana but her office that had published this.”

Speaking about the issue for the first time, he added, “I mention this because I never reacted to what she said. I feel now I can say this. We did have some meetings, we talked together. I don't want to go into detail. The only thing I want to say is that it is not true that she did not accept the role.”

Majidi is open to working with Ranaut though. “She is a very good actress. (She is) strong, I hope to work with Kangana in the future,” he added.
