A news report says that actor Aamir Khan has asked makers of the Gulshan Kumar biopic, Mogul, to eliminate the underworld elements from the script and restrict the film to just an underdog story.
Mid-day quoted a source as saying, “The screenplay is currently being tweaked to make it more about Gulshan's rise from being a fruit juice vendor to the owner of the biggest music label in the country. Aamir is a big believer in underdog stories.” The tabloid further quoted a source saying, "Aamir wanted the underworld details to be reduced. The alleged role of the underworld in Gulshan's death will be eliminated. The film will just touch upon these topics [sic]."
In March, we had reported how T-Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar had been eyeing a bigger superstar for Mogul, after Akshay Kumar opted out of the project.
"My father’s biopic is very close to me. That is the biggest announcement we have made in our lives and we will confirm an actor soon. He could be bigger than Akshay Kumar,” Bhushan had told Deccan Chronicle.
That triggered rumours that Bhushan was eyeing one of the Khans (Shah Rukh, Aamir, Salman). A few days later, Aamir's spokesperson had issued a statement saying he hadn't signed for the film.
Gushan Kumar had an eventful life as he rose from the streets to emerge as a music mogul. His death was tragic, too, as he was gunned down outside a temple near his Andheri residence on 12 August 1997.
Music director and singer Nadeem Saifee was accused of orchestrating Gulshan Kumar’s murder over a dispute. Saifee fled to the United Kingdom where he was later acquitted of murder charges.
One Abdul Rauf Merchant had confessed to killing the music mogul and he was sentenced to life imprisonment. Rauf allegedly killed Gulshan Kumar at the behest of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim after he supposedly refused to pay extortion money to the underworld.
