Revealed! Amitabh Bachchan shares meaning of his mysterious catchphrase 'Badumbaa'

For several years now, Tweeple have been perplexed at the recurring use of the word 'Badumbaa' in Amitabh Bachchan's social media feeds. While the veteran actor never chose to explain the word, it certainly caught the attention of his fans and has almost become a signature of his when expressing joy.

This signature has now found its way to cinema with the latest song from his upcoming film, 102 Not Out.

The teaser, released on Sunday (15 April), features Rishi Kapoor and Bachchan in a bright, frenzied and colourful song titled 'Badumbaaa'. Two minutes long, the teaser offers a glimpse of the song written by Amitabh Bhattacharya and sung by Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor themselves.

While it does feature Bachchan's voice, as he plays the 102-year-old father trying to get his 70-year-old son to have some fun, Kapoor's voice seems absent in the teaser.

The teaser also, finally, offers an explanation to the meaning of the word, Badumbaa. As Bachchan says, 'Ye ek josh hai, ye khushi ka ehsaas hai jo is gaane se zaahir ho jaega aapko [The word refers to enthusiasm, a feeling of happiness that refelects from this song].'

The song itself looks to be colourful, fun, and captures some zany steps by the senior Bachchan in character. The song is expected to be released on 19 April, while the film will hit the big screens on 4 May.
