The first glimpse of Priyanka Chopra in A Kid Like Jake seems to portray an uncomfortable conversation between herself and the parents of the eponymouse Jake over dinner. The actress appears in a 15 second shot in the trailer, which captures the sensitive tale of two parents struggling with a 4-year-old child confused about his gender preference.

The trailer begins with the sight of Claire Danes and Jim Parsons playing keen parents tracking their little boy's development in playschool. Octavia Spencer plays the kind teacher who makes the parents realise that their boy might be struggling with his identity. It is then that the urban educated parents struggle to come to terms too. The film, directed by Silas Howard, captures the fears, confusions, and struggles of parents in a sensitive and emotional manner.

For Indian audiences, Chopra's arrival makes for a highlight in a fairly sombre trailer. The actress appears in an awkward dinner scene as she gets into an argument with Danes' character. The scene seems to be set at a dinner between Priyanka Chopra, Aasif Mandvi, Claire Danes, and Jim Parsons' characters. As Chopra tries to explain how hard playschool can be for children, Danes' character is defensive and asks — 'To do what?'.

The argument, in short, captures the denial the parents are going through while trying to come to terms with their child's gender fluidity.

A Kid Like Jake is set to be released on 1 June 2018 in the United States.
