The first look of Parambrata Chatterjee’s upcoming directorial venture, Shonar Pahar, was released today. The film, which reportedly revolves around an unlikely friendship and inexplicable bond, is going be the comeback film for veteran actress Tanuja.

The film also features Soumitra Chatterjee, Jisshu Sengupta, Gargee Roy Chowdhury, Arunima Ghosh and the director himself.

The motion poster of the film shows the Sun rising in the hills, while in the front, an aged lady and a little boy make their journey towards a new morning through a winding path. The pastel look of it and the title of the film (translated as The Golden Mountain) suggest a fairy tale like storyline.

The background score of the motion poster carries a resemblance with the title track of the Feluda films by Satyajit Ray. It also adds a tinge of nostalgic anticipation from the film.

In the film, Upama (Tanuja) is in her 70s and lives alone in an old house in Kolkata. Her relationship with her only son Soumya (Jisshu Sengupta) is currently under a lot of strain. When Rajdeep (Chattopadhyay), a childhood friend of Soumya, happens to visit Upama, along with him, arrives his seven-year-old son Bittu. The plot explores the unusual friendship between Upama and Bittu.

“Shonar Pahar is a metaphor. Often children develop stories with elders who are close to them. They believe in those stories and also that if they manage to get into that imaginary world, it will end all their problems. This film is also about that,” elaborated the director.
