Shikari trailer: Is this a Marathi remake of Shekhar Suman's Anubhav?

The trailer does more harm than good and gives an odd sense of déjà vu that points towards the 1986 film.

The teaser of director Viju Mane’s Marathi movie Shikari was not only sleazy but also confusing with regards to its story. The newly released trailer though makes the plot very clear, fails to impress by any means.

Going by the trailer, the film revolves around Raghu (Suvrat Joshi). He is a poor man living in a village in Maharashtra, but dreams of becoming an actor someday. He is married off to a no-nonsense and naughty girl (Mrunmayee Deshpande) from his village. On their wedding night, a very horny Raghu is stunned to learn that his wife has neither knowledge about nor interest in sex.

Shikari actress Neha Khan: I am very shy and simple in real life

In this sex deprived phase, he meets the bold and beautiful Savita bhabhi (Neha Khan) and is instantly smitted by her beauty. In the pretence of giving her a break in the film industry, Raghu keeps getting close to her.

This said, the trailer does more harm than good. It gives an odd sense of déjà vu that points towards the 1986 film Anubhav, starring Shekhar Suman and Padmini Kolhapure. The film had Suman play Ramesh, a young man who gets married to Gauri (Kolhapure), only to realize that she has no interest in sex. Meanwhile, he gets attracted to the unabashedly bold Bilji, played by Richa Sharma.

We have paid tribute to Dada Kondke through Shikari, claims Mahesh Manjrekar

The sub-plot of the characters' dream of getting into the film industry seems to be an addition in Shikari, as far as the trailer is concerned.

Like the teaser and the song ‘Bhor Bhaye', the trailer is also sleazy to an extent. Therefore, it is safe to presume that the film will be no different.

Shikari is all set to be released on 20 April.
