After a decent opening weekend, the two promiment Hindi releases from last week (1 September) didn’t really grow much over the week.
Baadshaho, starring Ajay Devgn, was the biggest draw but the film could only get approximately Rs.54.25 crore nett in its first week.
Baadshaho review: Tried and tested action saga has more style than substance
The Milan Lurhria-directed action thriller is made at an estimated budget of Rs80 crore, the film had released across 2800 screens in India. Baadshaho had made a fairly decent Rs41.85 crore nett in the four days, but then didn’t really grow over the week, earning a meagre Rs12.4 crore nett. It faces a huge battle to break even.
Meanwhile, the other release Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, too, didn’t perhaps grows much after an impressive opening weekend collection of Rs16.54 crore nett (including Rs2.4 crore of first Monday). The film, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar, has made a total of Rs23.25 crore nett. Made at an estimated budget of Rs.25 crore, the film was released across 1400 screens in India. Unlike Baadshaho, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan should recover its cost.
Today (8th September) a host of films are releasing but neither are big banner productions. The two prominent releases this week are Sunny Deol’s Poster Boys and Arjun Rampal’s Daddy.
