Judwaa 2 song: Varun Dhawan's 'Oonchi Hai Building' still stuck in Salman's time warp

The latest song from the David Dhawan remake is quite similar to the original.

There is a distinct sense of déjà vu when it comes to Judwaa 2, the remake of the 1997. Twenty years later, not much has changed — the twins Raja and Prem, played by Varun Dhawan, are still wooing their lady loves. They have even used the same songs from the 1990s film — first it was ‘Tan Tana Tan Tan Tan Tara’ repackaged as ‘Chalti Hai Kya 9 Se 12’ and now it’s the turn of ‘Oonchi Hai Building’.

Composer Sandeep Shirodhkar has roped in Anu Malik to rehash the new song (now called 'Oonchi Hai Building 2.0'). The original was sung by Malik and Sushma Shreshta and Malik also composed the film’s soundtrack. The lyrics of the ‘Oonchi Hai Building 2.0’ are written by Dev Kohli. The over-the-top electronic beats make the overall sound jarring, and annoying.

For the new version, Malik is accompanied by Neha Kakkar on the perky duet. Even the song’s picturisation is familiar. Salman Khan courted and danced with Karisma Kapoor and Rambha in an interior set with coloured mood lighting.

‘Oonchi Hai Building 2.0’ also has Varun Dhawan courting and dancing with Jacqueline Fernandez and Taapsee Pannu. Thankfully, they do venture outdoors in the song choreographed by Bosco Martis.

Overall, the song fails to stamp out a unique identity despite being updated for the 2010s. Judwaa 2 is due to be released on 29 September (which also happens to be Dusshera this year).
