Director Devashish Makhija and actor Manoj Bajpayee kicked off the shoot of their film Bhonsle on an auspicious day with the blessings of Lalbaugcha Raja. The actor tweeted about the first day of shooting, along with a photograph of massive crowds gathered to bid adieu to the elephant god in Lalbaug, Mumbai. He captioned the photo saying, “shoot day 1.#bhonsle shoot started with the blessings of Lal baug cha raja.”

The project was a part of last year’s NFDC Film Bazaar, where it was looking for distributors and needed funding for post-production. It seems Manoj Bajpayee has been associated with Bhonsle for a while now. Last week, when Makhija and Bajpayee began the script reading, Balpayee revealed on Twitter, that they have been wanting to make the film since the past three and a half years.

Reportedly, Bajpayee plays a police officer on the verge of retirement who can’t cope with the impending change in his life. Makhija has previously assisted Shaad Ali on Bunty Aur Babli (2005) and Anurag Kashyap on Black Friday (2007).

Bhonsle is produced by Indie Muviz that also runs the streaming platform, Muvizz.com.
