There has been a lot of speculation over Priyanka Chopra returning to Hindi films after Prakash Jha’s Jai Gangaajal (2016). The actress was in the US to shoot her TV series Quantico, Hollywood film debut Baywatch and two more Hollywood films - Silas Howard’s A Kid Like Jake and Todd Strauss-Schulson’s Isn’t It Romantic? She will soon be shooting the third season of Quantico too.
Now, the big buzz is that Priyanka will be playing the role of Aamir Khan’s wife in the biopic of astronaut Rakesh Sharma. Reports have been floating around that the makers are keen to sign her now that she is in India, although there has been no official word about the same from anyone.
The film is called Saare Jahan Se Achha. It was earlier titled Salute. ‘Saare Jahan Se Achha’ were the words through which Rakesh Sharma described India from space while conversing with Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
If she is indeed cast opposite Aamir, this will be the first time that the two actors will be sharing screen space. The film is expected to go on floors in May 2018. There were talks some time back about Priyanka playing Kalpana Chawla in the late astronaut's biopic. But now, if all goes well, she will play the wife of an astronaut.
Priyanka was supposed to make her comeback with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gustakhiyan, which is based on the love story of poets Sahir Ludhianvi and Amrita Pritam. In fact, her mother Dr Madhu Chopra had also confirmed that Priyanka would be co-producing the film.
However, according to recent reports, the actress is no longer part of the film, and has conveyed her decision to Bhansali. Dr Madhu has now said that Priyanka doesn't have the time to discuss the project with Bhansali. “Priyanka was no doubt in talks with Bhansali, but the two couldn’t fit their time schedules to discuss the film. The question of co-producing would have come in only at a later stage. As of now, nothing has gone forward,” she said while speaking with DNA newspaper.
Irrfan Khan was earlier supposed to essay the role of Ludhianvi. But he was later replaced by Abhishek Bachchan.
