Looks like Varun Dhawan's hit streak at the box office might carry on with his latest release, a remake of David Dhawan 1997 film of the same name.

Judwaa 2, co-starring Taapsee Pannu and Jacqueline Fernandez, grossed around Rs16 crore nett on its opening day, making it the fourth biggest opening of 2017 behind Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, Tubelight and Raees.

The film has opened on the last day of Navrati and the holidays of Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti on Saturday and Monday, respectively, will only add to its box office total.

Rajkummar Rao's Newton, India's nomination to the Academy Awards for best foreign film, continued its box office run, grossing Rs11.75 crore and made around Rs85 lakhs on its second Friday. Newton, too, should benefit from the holiday weekend and add to its collections.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Dutt's Bhoomi and Shraddha Kapoor's Haseena Parkar, which released alongside Newton, were not so lucky. Bhoomi grossed only around Rs12 lakhs and Haseena Parkar made only Rs5 lakhs on their second Friday post release.
