Release of John Abraham’s Parmanu shifted to February with Rani Mukerji’s Hichki

The film's release date was moved to avoid getting sandwiched between two big December films, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati and Tiger Zinda Hai starring Salman Khan.

The makers of John Abraham’s Parmanu, KriArj Entertainment, are delaying the film’s release to February so the film doesn’t clash with two big December films, Padmavati and Tiger Zinda Hai.

Padmavati stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, while Tiger Zinda Hai will have Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif.

Parmanu had to shift its 8 December date to avoid getting sandwiched between the two big films, and will now be released on 23 February, 2018 opposite Hichki, starring Rani Mukerji.

Producer Prernaa Arora told Mid-day.com, “Parmanu is small compared to Padmavati. It's not wise to pit our film against Bhansali's. We've locked on the February 23 date since Anushka Sharma's Pari will release earlier that month, and Akshay Kumar's Padman is also eyeing an April date. Also, we don't want to interfere with Fanney Khan (starring Anil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) or Tarun Mansukhani's Drive, which releases in the following months."

Earlier, Padmavati was slated to be released on 17 November but was postponed to 1 December. Arora said the makers were left with no other option but to make the change so that the film could do well.

Parmanu: The Story of Pokran, is based on the real-life nuclear test series conducted by India in 1998. Boman Irani and Diana Penty are also part of the film. Meanwhile, Rani Mukerji returns to the big screen after four years with Siddharth P Malhotra’s Hichki.
