Low budget film Newton has survived the first week as it bagged Rs11.75 crore nett, as reported by BoxOfficeIndia.com. The film has received positive reviews and it recovered its basic budget of Rs9 crore. Newton was released across 500 screens in India.

There was nothing but despair for Sanjay Dutt’s comeback film Bhoomi which tanked at the box office. The film could only make Rs10 crore nett in the first week. Made at an estimated budget of Rs32 crore, Bhoomi released across 1,300 screens in India. Clearly, Dutt’s comeback film hasn’t brought the actor or his fans any cheer.

The big disaster was Shraddha Kapoor’s much hyped Haseena Parkar which bagged an abysmal Rs6.50 crore in the first week. The film was made at a budget of Rs19 crore and it had released across 1,100 screens.

Despite a big release today (29 September) — Judwaa 2 — Newton still might get decent numbers over the long holiday period till 2 October.
But, given their poor show in the first week, Bhoomi and Haseena Parkar virtually have no chance to even break even.
