Golmaal Again song: 'Maine Tujhko Dekha' a failed remake of Ishq's 'Neend Churai Meri'

Weak music, uninteresting lyrics, poor visuals, mediocre choreography and forced puns, ail the remake.

The spate of remaking classic or popular songs from the 1990s continues, and unsurprisingly, most of them fail to do justice to the original — they come and quickly fizzle out. This trend is nothing new, but the fact that an artiste associated with the original track has to endure a poor remake is saddening.

We wonder how Ajay Devgn reacted to the remake of 'Neend Churayi Meri' from Ishq (1997) for his upcoming film Golmaal Again?

The original lyrics were penned by Rahat Indori, the tune was composed by Anu Malik, and sung by the best singers of the time – Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan, Kavita Krishnamurthy and Alka Yagnik.

The lyricist and the music director of the new song, Kumaar and Amaal Mallik, respectively, are to be blamed for creating an extremely poor remake, titled 'Maine Tujhko Dekha'.

The music that begins the song not only takes you back to the original, but also lures you into believing that the song might be a fine remake. However, the new tunes in between the song are wayward. Mallik has retained the core peppy tune from the original but has failed to add in any novelty to the music

The poor lyrics too don't impress at all. Kumaar has only retained the core verse from the original –

Neend churayee meri
Kisne o sanam
Tu ne
Ho chain churaya mera
Kisne o sanam
Tu ne
Ho dil mein mere
Rahne wali kaun hai
Tu hai, tu hai

The playback singers save the track from being a disaster. Singer Neeraj Shridhar is hampered by poor lyrics such as ‘Chand Ko Complex Diya Hai, Tere Chehre Ne' and Sukriti Kakkar’s has managed to sing with conviction.

Poor visuals, weak choreography and the forced puns (which can, perhaps, be only deciphered by the director, Rohit Shetty) further ail the song.

Nevertheless, there always is an audience for a song. Perhaps, those who haven’t heard or seen the original might like this one.

Watch both the remake and the original below and decide for yourself.
