Shweta Tripathi, Suraj Sharma to play immigrants in USA production The Illegals


The Masaan actress will play Sharma's sister in the immigrant drama directed by Danish Renzu.

With Zoo already heading to the Busan International Film Festival, Shweta Tripathi has another project lined up. The actress is set to star alongside Life of Pi and Phillauri actor, Suraj Sharma, in the upcoming American film, The Illegals. The US based independent film will be directed by Danish Renzu.

While Tripathi has already made an impact with her roles in films like Masaan (2013), Haraamkhor (2016) and now, Zoo, Sharma made his debut in Hindi cinema with Phillauri (2017), also starring Anushka Sharma.

The film is a gritty realistic story about the social underclass; illegal immigrants working in a restaurant in Los Angeles, USA. Sharma is set to play the illegal immigrant Hassan, whereas Tripathi plays his sister Mahi, who has always encouraged him to trust himself, follow his heart and dreams. A very self assured girl who during testing times, becomes the back bone of the family.

Speaking about the film, Tripathi said, "I love working with people from different parts of the world. And the team of a project really excites me. And that's exactly how the it was at The Illegal."

The film is still in its post-production stage, and is awaiting release.
