Director Amit V Masurkar’s Newton has turned out to be the dark horse at the box office this weekend. The Rajkummar Rao-starrer has outperformed Sanjay Dutt-starrer Bhoomi and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Haseena Parkar.
The film opened at Rs85 lakh approximately on Friday. One needs to note that the film is reportedly made at only Rs9 crore and has been released in only 500 screens. So the opening was average. But, the film saw a huge jump in the next two days due to the positive word-of-mouth, mostly because of the news about the film being selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars.

It made Rs2.50 crore on Saturday and Rs3.50 crore on Sunday, respectively, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com. Going by the trend, Newton is expected to hold well in the weekdays starting today.
Omung Kumar’s Bhoomi and Apoorva Lakhia’s Haseena Parkar have been added to the long list of flops in 2017. After opening at Rs1.96 crore on Friday, Bhoomi went onto score only Rs2.25 crore and Rs2.50 crore, respectively on Saturday and Sunday. Made at a budget of around Rs32 crore, it is staring at defeat.
