The first week box office figures of Hansal Mehta’s Simran and Ranjit Tiwari’s Lucknow Central are out and they pretty much seal the fate of both the films. The Kangana Ranaut-starrer and the Farhan Akhtar-starrer have been added to the long list of flops this year.
Simran didn’t open well and ended up earning only Rs9.48 crore in its opening weekend. The film didn’t manage to hold up in the difficult weekday time. It has finished its first week with just Rs13.25 crore, as per numbers shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.
Simran review: Kangana Ranaut's brilliant solo show is not enough here
Hence, the journey of Ranaut's film is well and truly over now, despite the fact that she has been continuously in the news for her tussle with actor Hrithik Roshan.
Lucknow Central fared even worse. The film made only Rs7.39 crore, approximately in the weekend. With negative reviews and word-of-mouth, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the film has managed only Rs10.75 crore in the first week. At least Simran had some chance due to Ranaut's popularity, but there was little buzz for Lucknow Central.
Lucknow Central Review: The film makes an escape from conviction
Both the films are reportedly made at a budget of Rs30 crore each. When films with well-known names doesn’t recover even half their cost, it speaks volumes about their bad performance at the box office.
