Rishi Kapoor calls out 'PR Machinery' of 'shameless actors' on #NoFilterNeha

These days, Rishi Kapoor tends to make it to the news more than his son, Ranbir Kapoor. The senior actor, who is a feared and followed presence on Twitter, was on Neha Dhupia's latest podcast, #NoFilterNeha. The podcast, which seeks to capture actors and celebrities at their outspoken best, found quite the guest in Rishi Kapoor. The veteran spared no words on the show, criticizing the 'PR machinery' of stars for turning even 'chauthas' into airport scenarios.

Kapoor, who recently spoke out against the star system during the funeral of the late Vinod Khanna, reiterated his statement saying, "We have always learnt that whether you go to someone’s wedding or not but you must visit them in their tough time. When Vinod Khanna passed away, there was hardly anyone from the film industry at his funeral. There is a respect for your senior and for someone who has made it possible for you to make an earning for yourself out of the acting business. He was the pillar of the industry. But no film director, producer, music director or actor turned up for his funeral."

On Khanna's death, Kapoor had criticized actors for skipping on the funeral. Speaking to Dhupia, Kapoor said, "This fashion-conscious generation goes for the ‘Chautha’ which takes place in an air-conditioned hall. It is an occasion for them to wear their whites and beige clothes and wear dark glasses. Chautha looks have become similar to airport looks for these actors."

While he has never been among the most patient people, the senior actor admitted his son has better patience when it comes to dealing with fans. He said, "Ranbir is very obliging and kind which I don’t like at all. He can’t say no. He has so much patience. He will bloody miss his flight but will not deny a selfie to a fan. And I am so irritated when someone asks me for a selfie. I just can’t take it and I get unnerved when the person is searching for the button to click the photo."

Like any day, the actor also called his tweeting habits 'personal' but said, "I can't be right always."

While the talk of nepotism hasn't ceased, Kapoor did not shy away from praising his father, Raj Kapoor, for continuing to be relevant to the young generation.

"The young generation still sings songs from Raj Kapoor’s movies in various nations. People are talking about him even after 29 years of his death, instead of talking about Ranbir, Karisma or Kareena. We didn’t know in our younger days that he is such a phenomenon," he said.

Although he added that his father would often make actors work 'like a kasaai (butcher)'. "He never compromised with his work," said Kapoor of the director of Satyam Shivam Sundaram (1978), adding, "Crew walon ko khilao jamaiyon ki tarah, kaam karao kasaiyon ki tarah (Feed the crew members as if they are the sons-in-law, but make them work like a butcher would)"

As for himself, the actor admitted he was 'difficult' to work with. However, he revealed that his differences never affect work. Kapoor said, "Shakun Batra and I are not on the same page ever! Like during the shooting of Kapoor & Sons (2016) but yet the result was what he actually got."

While the fun chat show was filled with several moments of comedy, one of the more interesting revelations on the show was Kapoor's admission that he almost didn't shoot with Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna for the climax of the Manmohan Desai hit, Amar Akbar Anthony (1977).

The actor revealed that after struggling to finish the shooting for the film, he could not manage to find the same dates for the climax as Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna. Ever creative, Desai decided to shoot Kapoor's Akbar playing the accordion on a sofa, while the other two brothers fought with the villains.
