Box office: Simran and Lucknow Central join long list of flops in 2017

Kangana Ranaut-starrer Simran and Farhan Akhtar-starrer Lucknow Central earned only Rs1.15 crore and Rs1 crore, respectively on its first Monday

Hansal Mehta’s Simran and Ranjit Tiwari’s Lucknow Central have been added to the long list of flops this year.

On its first Monday, Kangana Ranaut-starrer Simran and Farhan Akhtar-starrer Lucknow Central earned only Rs1.15 crore and Rs1 crore, respectively, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.

Simran made Rs9.48 crore on its first weekend. With such a total, it needed to earn at least decently from Monday onwards. As that hasn’t happened and the film has made only Rs10.63 crore, it doesn’t stand a chance of surpassing its production cost of around Rs30 crore.

Simran review: Kangana Ranaut's brilliant solo show is not enough here

Ranaut was in the news constantly before the release of the film ever since she gave an explosive interview on television show, Aap Ki Adalat. However, the popularity hasn’t reflected in the box office numbers although the film has received good reviews for her performance.

Lucknow Central has met a similar fate and earned lesser than Simran. The film has only made a paltry sum of Rs8.39 crore. Its production cost is also reportedly Rs30 crore. The low pre-release buzz and negative reviews and word-of-mouth seems to have affected the film.

Lucknow Central Review: The film makes an escape from conviction

The week also saw the release of Sanjay Chhel’s Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi, which starred Rishi Kapoor, Paresh Rawal and Vir Das. The film’s collection has been too negligible to report.
