Producer Ronnie Screwvala is producing a film, Uri, based on September 2016 surgical strikes by the Indian army in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) starring Vicky Kaushal as a commander-in-chief who leads the operation. First-time filmmaker Aditya Dhar will be directing the film.
The film will take a look at the real-life events of last September when four terrorists entered the town of Uri and attacked an Indian army camp, killing 19 soldiers.
Actor Kaushal, in a release, said, “When this film came to me and we had this discussion I was really thrilled and kicked about it because this is one story that I feel that everyone needs to know. One of the fantastic army operations that the Indian army has conducted and with great efficiency. I also feel it is a great opportunity and also a responsibility for all of us to portray this story.”
The actor also shared that the role might be “one of the most toughest part that I have played till date, both physically and emotionally.” He is supposed undergo some paramilitary training and fitness courses as prep.

He is currently filming for Dharma Productions’ Raazi in Srinagar with co-star Alia Bhatt. Uri will begin shooting early next year after Kaushal is finished with Raazi.
Writer-lyricist Dhar was slated to helm Raat Baaki, a joint project by Karan Johar and Fox Star Studio which later got shelved. Fawad Khan and Katrina Kaif were supposed to star in the film together for the first time.
