‘Sick humour’ on RK Studio fire offends Rishi Kapoor

The massive fire at Mumbai’s iconic RK Studio in Chembur came as a jolt not only to the Kapoor family and members of the film industry, but also to the general public. 

Although there were no casualties, veteran actors Rishi Kapoor and brother Randhir Kapoor, who are currently the owners, were left heartbroken after the fire destroyed the old memorabilia, costumes and other materials pertaining to RK Films. 

There was something else that added salt to the injury for Rishi. A cartoon related to the fire in one of the dailies has irked the actor. It shows the late Raj Kapoor witnessing the fire from heaven. He is shown saying, “Fire is a good omen. In my life... it all started with ‘Aag.’” 

For the uninitiated, Aag (1948) marked the debut of Raj as a producer and director. His banner RK Films was started with this film. 

Rishi was alerted about the cartoon by a journalist on Twitter. The veteran actor strongly reacted to it and replied, “This is bad. We take objection to this kind of depraved sick humour.” A number of Rishi's followers on the micro-blogging site also reacted sharply to the cartoon.
