Earlier this year’s Irrfan Khan’s Hindi Medium (2017) charmed audiences with its all-too-real story about the struggle of Indian parents trying to enroll their children in a good school. Luckily, we won’t have to wait too long for his next film. The Song of Scorpions, directed by Anup Singh, has been selected for the 19th Mumbai Film Festival this October. The announcement was made earlier today on the festival's Twitter handle.

The film will most probably be screened under the Spotlight section, instated in 2016. According to the festival Facebook page, the Spotlight section features only premiere films.

Singh earlier worked with Irrfan Khan in the critically acclaimed Qissa in 2013.

The Song of Scorpions is a revenge fantasy that follows a tribal woman Nooran, played by the Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani, who yearns to be a scorpion singer, like her mother Zubaida (Waheeda Rehman), to heal scorpion bites. Irrfan Khan plays Aadam, a camel trader who falls in love with Nooran after hearing her sing.

The film has already had its world premiere at the Locarno Festival in Switzerland on 9 August, 2017. It will also screen at the London Film Festival on 6 and 7 October. Hopefully, the cast will make it to Mumbai for the film’s Indian premiere.

Irrfan Khan is currently shooting for Karwaan with Dulquer Salmaan and Mithila Palkar. The light-hearted comedy directed by Akarsh Khurana is reportedly a road film.
