Box office: Simran beats Lucknow Central on opening day but still earns low

Hansal Mehta’s Simran and Ranjit Tiwari’s Lucknow Central opened at the box office yesterday, 15 September. Though the former managed to beat the latter, it has still earned low.

Simran, starring Kangana Ranaut, made Rs2.50 crore on the opening day, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com. 

The film earned more in the multiplexes of the metros. Its numbers on the opening day are similar to that of Shubh Mangal Saavdhan and better than Bareilly Ki Barfi's earnings on their respective release dates. So, the films does stand a chance of a good jump in the earnings on Saturday and Sunday. 

Simran is reportedly made at a budget of Rs30 crore. A good weekend will be a must for it to become a safe bet for the producers. 

Lucknow Central, starring Farhan Akhtar and Diana Penty, has earned even lower. The film managed to collect only Rs1.75 crore. The low pre-release buzz and negative word-of-mouth seems to have affected its performance at the box office. 

The reported cost of the film is Rs30 crore. Needless to say, it needs to perform out of its skin in the next two days to get on the safe track. 

Yesterday, also saw the release of Sanjay Chhel’s Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi, starring Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal. The film has been badly panned by the critics and the collections are too low to report.
