Arjun Rampal not up for acting in Daddy’s Marathi remake if it's made

Arjun Rampal-starrer Daddy, which is a biopic on gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli, hasn’t clicked at the box office. But the actor is happy with the appreciation the film, directed by Ashim Ahluwalia, is getting from some sections of the audience, especially in Mumbai as the story is based here.

Rampal, who is also the producer, has claimed that the film has been a safe bet. “We are pretty much safe. We got a good deal with Amazon, as well as satellite telecast. It’s important to keep in mind that when you know that you are making a film on a character who comes from Maharashtra, the film will be doing its major business here. Almost 60 to 70 per cent of the contribution of the film has come from Maharashtra,” he said in an interview with DNA newspaper. 

He also accepted that films on such subjects don’t work in other parts of the country. “These kind of films are not very popular in the North and Delhi,” he added. 

The actor-cum-producer wanted Gawli to be out on parole to watch the film. “More than me, I think it was disappointing for the family that he couldn’t be here. The film is not going anywhere, he will watch it whenever he comes out [of jail],” he said. 

The film has scope of being remade in Marathi considering its local subject. If that happens, would Rampal prefer acting in it?

“No. Maybe someone else can do it though," he said without hesitation.
