Will reject songs if voice not up to the mark, says Anil Kapoor on singing for Fanney Khan 

Anil Kapoor is entering the 'method' zone for his next film, Fanney Khan. The actor is set to take on the task of playback singing for the film in which he plays a failed singer.

According to a report by MumbaiMirror.com, the actor will sing two songs in the musical-drama. However, the actor also claimed that he will 'reject' the song if his voice is not 'up to the mark'.

Speaking about the film, Kapoor said, "I am going to give singing my best shot. My character is a failed singer and I have two songs to sing. But, I will be the first to reject them if my voice is not up to the mark. The makers want the film to be as real as possible, which is why they want me to sing."

Incidentally, Kapoor had trained in light and semi-classical Hindustani music during his early years as an actor. In a 2016 interview to daily Hindustan Times, he had said, "I learnt semi-classical singing from music director Chote Iqbal, and then I stopped doing riyaaz (practise) because I got so involved in acting. I got a lot of playback offers, but I felt that I was not good enough because I had stopped practising. Also, I learnt singing not because I wanted to become a singer, but because it helped me with lip-syncing for my films."

The actor has previously done playback singing for films like Woh 7 Din (1983), Chameli Ki Shaadi (1986) and more recently, for a short section in Shootout at Wadala (2013).

Shooting for the film has already begun, and is most likely to complete by October. Fanney Khan will see Kapoor team up with his Taal (1999) co-star, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Rajkummar Rao. The film is a remake of the Academy Award nominated Dutch film, Everybody's Famous! (2000).

Kapoor will also sport two looks for the film - one a deglamourized father of an 18-year old, and the other of a younger, budding singer. The MumbaiMirror.com report also quoted the actor saying "The real reveal in the look will come later," suggesting there is more to the character than is known currently.
