Today, India is not a force in hockey that it once was, a Olympic Gold or a Champions Trophy still remains out of reach. Thus, making a film on a current Indian hockey player is bound to raise brows. However, Deccan Chronicle has reported that director Shaad Ali is making a film on Indian hockey player Sandeep Singh.
Ileana D'cruz was Ali's first choice for the female lead, but she opted out for another project, starring Ajay Devgn. D'Cruz is now said to be replaced by Pink (2016) actress Taapsee Pannu. Moreover, Daljit Dosanjh is tipped to play the role of the Indian hockey player. When contacted, Dosanjh’s manager refused to comment.
Buzz has it that the film is based on the love story of the 31-year-old Indian striker. Singh is married to Harjinder Kaur, a former hockey player herself, who gave up her career for marriage.
In 2006, Singh was accidentally hit by a bullet while travelling in a train. The incident left him nearly paralysed and it took two years for him to make a successful return to the sport.
