Chef song 'Tere Mere' is Saif Ali Khan's melodious cry as he battles loneliness

Loneliness hurts too much to express in words. All that one is left with is a long face and memories of a wonderful past that haunts the present. Saif Ali Khan cuts a disconsolate figure in the 'Tere Mere' song from Chef, that was released today.

Rashmi Virag has penned Roshan Kalra’s (Khan) state of the heart — hollow, lonely, yearning to reunite with his estranged love Radha Menon (Padmapriya). Millions of lonely people across the world will empathise with Kalra’s plight. When he had his love, he didn’t value it much, but now that she’s not around, all that’s left are cold memories. It is a melodious cry of the lonely chef.

It’s not the lyrics, but the neat singing by Armaan Malik that really lifts the track. There’s a thairaav (stillness) in his voice which he uses efficiently to emote the feelings of Kalra.  

Malik’s singing is ably backed by the soft, soothing pop music scored by his brother Amaal. The songs beats consistently on sombre rhythm syncing  with the visuals of nostalgia. Though, the two lyrics are different, the 'Tere Mere' song will bring back memories of 'Humdard' from Ek Villain (2014) that was crooned by Arijit Singh. Both Singh and Armaan are among the best singers for romantic songs.

The lyrics, singing and music would have counted for nothing if it wasn’t for the sombre emotions exhibited by Khan and Padmapriya.
