Actor Vijay, one of the top stars in the Tamil film industry, on Monday, 11 September, took time to visit the family of Anitha S, who committed suicide. The 17 year-old decided to end her life after her petition against the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) was dismissed by the Supreme Court.
Sources present on the occasion say that the actor visited Anita's home in Kuzhumur village of Ariyalur district and offered his deepest condolences to the family members of the late medical aspirant.
Reportedly, Anitha, daughter of a labourer, had scored 1,176 marks out of 1,200 in the Plus Two public examinations, but could not secure a seat at a medical college as her NEET score was a meagre 86 out of 720. Her suicide has triggered a storm in the state with students across Tamil Nadu demanding that the state be exempted from the NEET exam, which they claim puts students from the rural areas at a disadvantage.
One of actor's fan page on Twitter tweeted about his visit writing,"#Thalapathy Vijay paid a visit to #Anitha's house and consoled her father."

Several stars from the Tamil film industry have already expressed shock and pain at the demise of the bright student. These include Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.
Music director and actor G V Prakash and director Pa Ranjith, who is directing Superstar Rajinikanth's Kaala after having directed him in Kabali (2016), have already visited the family of the late student and expressed their condolences.
