The talks about the next film in Rajkumar Hirani’s Munna Bhai series has been going on since time immemorial. The makers had announced a third film, titled Munna Bhai Chale Amerika, soon after the release of the second film. They had also released a teaser. But the film kept on getting delayed and Sanjay Dutt’s jail tenure didn’t help matters, either.
It was later learnt that the next film in the series won’t be Munna Bhai Chale Amerika, afterall. Dutt himself has now confirmed the same. While speaking about his upcoming film Bhoomi, he said, “No, I don’t think so. Since I can’t get an American visa, it’s not going to happen.”
Speaking about the current status of the film, he said, “As far as I know from the conversations with Rajuji (director Rajkumar Hirani) and Vinodji (producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra), scripting is going on right now. As soon as they finish shooting for the biopic (on Dutt), Rajuji will start working on the script himself.”
Despite the fact that the script is not ready yet, Dutt is hopeful that the film will be ready by 2018. “And I am hoping by everyone’s wishes and God’s grace, the film will be ready by next year,” he added. He, however, did not mention the subject of the film.
The first film in the series was Munna Bhai M.B.B.S (2003). The instant success of the film gave way for Lage Raho Munna Bhai in 2006, which also became a blockbuster.
