Hindi films that were released on 25 August failed to make a mark at the box office, making it a black Friday for the industry.

Fox Star Studios' A Gentleman was the biggest disappointment, earning Rs16.75 crore nett in its first week, as reported by BoxOfficeIndia.com. The film, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez, was made at an estimated budget of Rs60 crore, and released on about 2,500 screens. With such poor opening week collections, A Gentleman has been declared a flop.

Meanwhile, the notable release last week was Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Babumoshai Bandookbaaz. The trade had reported the film's budget to be Rs14 crore, but the actors claimed that the actual budget was just Rs5 crore. The film, which was released on 1200 screens, has so far collected Rs6.25 crore nett.

The two other releases — Qaidi Band and Sniff!!! — could not even touch the Rs1 crore mark. The former’s first week collection was just Rs50 lakh nett, while the latter's is negligible. Qaidi Band was made at an estimated budget of Rs20 crore and released on over 600 screens, while the budget of Sniff!!! is said to be below Rs5 crore and it was released on barely 300 screens.

Meanwhile, the acclaimed Bareilly Ki Barfi has earned around Rs26.37 crore nett so far. The film, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Kriti Sanon, bagged Rs8 crore nett in its second week to add to the Rs18.37 crore nett it earned in the first week. The film was made at a modest budget of Rs20 crore and was released on about 1,000 screens.
