The last rites of filmmaker Kundan Shah were carried out today at the crematorium in the Shivaji Park area of Mumbai. The Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983) director passed away early today at his residence due to a cardiac arrest. He was 69.

Among the big names who attended the funeral were actor Anil Kapoor and Kundan Shah’s dear friend and filmmaker Sudhir Mishra.

Kundan Shah is best known for directing Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983), considered as one of the best comedies to have emerged from Hindi cinema. From the film’s team, actor Satish Shah and Mishra (who was the co-writer) were present. Pavan Malhotra, who was the production assistant on the film, also attended the funeral. He played a pivotal role in Kundan Shah’s much loved TV series, Nukkad.
Kundan Shah’s other memorable work includes Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1994). It is considered one of superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s best films during his early days. Satish Shah had also acted in Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. Jatin Pandit, one half of the musical duo Jatin-Lalit, who composed songs for the film, was also present.
The film's cast included Suchitra Krishnamoorthy, Deepak Tijori, Ashutosh Gowariker and Naseeruddin Shah.
Hindi film industry mourns Kundan Shah's death
Others present at the funeral were Ketan Mehta, Indra Kumar, Aziz Mirza, Makarand Deshpande, Rahul Dholakia, Deepak Dobriyal, Raj Zutshi, ad guru Prahlad Kakkar and others.
