Hindi film industry mourns Kundan Shah's death

Filmmaker Kundan Shah, director of the cult black comedy Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983) and the romantic drama Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1994), died in Mumbai early on Saturday, 7 October, a family member said. He was 69.

"He died in his sleep early in the morning," a relative told the IANS news agency. According to writer-actor-filmmaker Satish Kaushik, who wrote the dialogues for Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro and also acted in it, Shah suffered a cardiac arrest. Shah, who also gave the industry some much-loved television shows like Nukkad and Wagle Ki Duniya, would have turned 70 on 19 October.
The Hindi film industry took to Twitter to express its grief at the sudden passing of the filmmaker.
Calling Shah a 'brave man', filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt spoke of his contribution to alternate cinema.

Through a series of tweets, director Sudhir Mishra remembered his 'inspiration' while adding that Shah was wise, crazy, academic, imaginative and someone who mourned the impossibility of true love.
